Help us to change lives in Africa

We are a small charity raising money in the UK to help some of the poorest people in Uganda to rise out of poverty.

We work in Kashare, South West Uganda, where nearly 20 per cent of the people live below the extreme poverty level. Of the population of 23,000, nearly 900 children are orphaned or abandoned, and a third of the women cannot read or write.

Since we began 13 years ago we have helped 150 vulnerable children through educational support, and enabled 750 women to learn to read and write. We have arranged micro loans for 1,300 very poor women, and taught better agricultural methods to 150 farmers.

We are keen to expand all these projects.

Help us to strengthen and extend this vital work

Water Access and Sanitation

We are thrilled to be building ten new 7,000 litre rainwater tanks which will transform the lives of many people in Kashare. Until now they have sometimes had to walk long distances to collect water, which has not always been clean. With the twice-yearly rains in the...

Orphans and vulnerable children

We support orphans and vulnerable children by paying school fees, providing uniform and running a Saturday centre with food, activities and counselling. Without this help, many of the children would not be able to go to school. Of the 23,000 people in Kashare, an...

Farming and Microcredit

Our microcredit programme helps women to run a business by providing small loans, typically ranging from £40 – £110. Since the programme began in 2010, we have made 1,919 loans to 1,073 women (December 2019). Our interest rate is...

Literacy for Women

The Women's Empowerment through Learning Literacy (WELL) project develops literacy among the women of Kashare, where at present 35 per cent of women cannot read or write. The first cohort of 116 joined the project in July 2015 and still meet regularly. Groups of up to...

English language scheme

Our English Learning Scheme aims to improve primary school children’s English, which is vital if they are to pass their leaving exams and progress to secondary schools. Children in rural areas like Kashare are at a huge disadvantage because they start English late,...
