Women’s literacy and business training
KICS began a women’s literacy and English language programme in 2015. This empowers women through access to increased educational and employment opportunities.
In-service teacher training
KICS launched its in-service teacher training programme in 2016 to help primary school children in Kashare’s rural areas improve their English (Uganda’s official language).
Village savings and loan associations
Village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) are community-run groups of about 30 people that help members save money, borrow small amounts, and get emergency funds.
Microcredit
The KICS microcredit programme provides loans to women to invest in their small businesses. Loans start at £90 and can be up to £160. Since 2010, KICS has helped more than 1,300 women through more than 2,500 loans, totalling more than £170,000.
Farmer-led agribusiness platforms
KICS established farmer-led agribusiness platforms (FLAPs) in 2023 to support sustainable farming techniques and help smallholder farmers sell their crops more effectively.
